Sorry for the delay in getting back to you and thank you for your comment. We agree that sustainability and environmental responsibility are essential considerations when planning our refurbishments. In securing contractors to build the new sites we undertake rigorous checks to ensure that they source materials, dispose of waste and undertake their daily practices in an as environmentally friendly way as possible. Our procurement process for play contractors is set up in such a way that favours those who can demonstrate this. On the issue of surfacing, we are obligated to ensure that all surfaces surrounding play equipment complies with British and European safety standards. We are pleased to say that surfacing companies are moving towards more sustainable ways of providing this such as using recycled ocean plastics in the manufacturing of such products. Again, we favour contractors who can demonstrate a commitment to these kinds of practices. When we install new planting areas, we are committed to put in place a management plan for these. This involves planning for the maintenance of such areas. Havant Borough Council do not prioritise financial cost over the impact to environment in the delivery of these play areas
