Climate Emergency
From "Corporate Strategy"
Go to the project
The UN is warning that we are on the verge of an irreversible climate catastrophe. Tackling this at a national, regional and personal level must be the number one priority for every local authority. And this means genuine action, not greenwashing.

Connect with other communities. To ban and remove any artificial grass. It does nothing good for the environment or our health. They overheat, use huge volumes of water in production and can't be recycled. Plastic grass fibres and rubber crumbs containing PFAs contaminate the soil and water course.

Declaring a climate emergency would get my vote!
Connecting with like minded "responsible" councils to bolster climate emergency also gets my vote
The councils climate strategy is weak and toothless the council could make parts of that more realizable and competent.

Please confirm that the Council will disinvest in fossil fuel companies as Lucy Flannery suggests.
Please confirm that future planning permissions will only be granted if construction meet the highest standards of insulation and where the building includes solar panel or heat exchangers to meet it energy requirements.

No simple answers will do but the Local plan does make the right sounds on the climate. However, is anyone going to grasp the nettle? This is a government responsibility and urgent.

"Thank you for your comment. Do you have any suggested actions that the Council could take?"
Declare a climate emergency.
Connect with other local authorities who have already done this and share best practice.
Review your pension fund portfolio. Divert any holdings in fossil fuel industries to investments in clean energies.
Review your sub-contractors' record in environmental impact. Make it part of your Risk Register. Terminate any agreements where companies do not conform to the required standards.
Invite expert groups and individuals to contribute to your sustainability policies.
