I think we need more pockets of fun all around us. Having visited playgrounds in densely populated cities to more rural ones in various places around the world, I’ve found it’s not the size that matters, but the opportunities that even small playgrounds offer. It could be as simple as a sandbox, gymnastics bars and a bit of safe open space away from cars or just a table tennis table - but make them abundant, safe and accessible! I shouldn’t have to drive the kids to a playground each time - let’s think more creatively where these pockets could exist, and surround them with trees to offer shade on a hot day.
I’ve just seen that the FSB international trade fair for public space, sport and leisure in cologne (24-27 Oct 2023) will include a live parkour area - how cool would that be for the older kids (and curious and brave younger ones)?!? HTTPS://YouTu.be/-7o5A2iWfVQ
