Natural spaces on Hayling Island

From "Your priorities for Building a Better Future"

Go to the project

It is important not to just create contrived outdoor play areas and parks. It is very important to retain natural wild space for people to explore and wander and for animals to thrive. I don’t want children to grow up just surrounded by houses and the built environment with extremely limited access to ‘clean’ wild nature. The more access and experiences they have of the natural wild environments the more they will learn to respect and protect the environment.

Thank you for your views. Are you able to clarify what you mean by 'clean' wild nature? Are you able to provide some examples of the types of access and experiences to the natural wild environments that you think are important for people and children?
@Caroline Harvey by ‘clean’ I mean not polluted by sewage and not full of rubbish and litter. By ‘wild nature’ I mean outdoor spaces that are not pruned, manicured, chosen and maintained to perfection by humans. I’m talking about natural environments like wooded areas, meadows, tracks and the sea front. They are important for children because accesses to ‘clean wild nature’ is good for mental health. It decreases levels of stress, anxiety and depression. It encourages good levels of active exercise which in turn decreases obesity and other health issues like heart disease. It also connects people to nature and in turn fosters a respect for animals and the environment. It teaches them that life is not all about consuming, building and taking. And that not everything has to cost money you can just go for a walk in nature and be for filled.
@Rachel Evans Thank you for clarifying and for your detailed feedback, this is very useful.
