The play park in Southwood Road PO11 9FD is a sad recreational area for small children on the east side of the island. I have grandchildren and been to other parks on the island which are a far superior standard with good play equipment. It’s a great space for residents and holidaymakers that is not being used as the play equipment is poor, the grass uneven, only one swing. There are fences around the park missing so not a secure area to let children play. Who is responsible for the planning and upgrade of the park? Are there plans in place for the refurbishment of this area?

We are aware of the current condition of the play area on Southwood Road, and it is marked as a priority site for refurbishment in our 5-year plans. Please be aware that a full refurbishment at Eastoke Corner, which is approximately 1km away from this site, will take place in Spring next year. We carefully consider how we distribute the funding we receive each year and are obligated to provide services across the whole borough. For this reason, work on Southwood play area is unable to be carried out at the same time as Eastoke Corner.
That said, we agree that the Southwood Road play area offers great potential to serve as a public space for residents and holidaymakers which is why it is in our ‘not too distant’ future plans. We believe that Eastoke Corner will be home to an excellent facility and hope that this serves as an adequate alternative for users of the Southwood Road play area in the interim
