It is difficult to comment on proposed sites for development when they have not been made public but clearly the Southleigh area is considered a prime location. My fears concern the additional demands on the already overcrowded roads. The original plans for the Bellway Haven Estate ( at the junction of Southleigh road and Horndean road) showed a footpath/cycle path to the recreation ground, and so into Emsworth, thereby avoiding the need to drive, or walk along the very busy Horndean road. This path exists as far as the bridge over sluice gate, but that is the extent of Bellway’s estate. If indeed further development is permitted in this area, then surely the path should be extended, as intended to partially mitigate the impact of even more properties and encourage people to walk or cycle.
