As land use is the issue when it comes to keeping land free for drainage or further development, why do we have so many one story buildings in Havant? Why do we have so much unused space from the lovely old Havant shopping area and even the relatively new meridian centre. Havant has sprawled out towards the west with disastrous effects on traffic flow.
I think many of these buildings should be converted into small apartments and flats, thus offering affordable housing without using up yet more green field sites. The idea of two story development is a very old one, why not go back to it when it comes to retail as well as housing.
What was wrong with small terraced housing? This type of residence reduces external walls for heat conservation, minimizing land use and increasing affordable housing.
