What facilities would help you to be more active?
From "Active Wellbeing"
Go to the project

We want to hear from you on what facilities you think would help you be more active. These can include a wide variety of things – they can range from leisure centres, swimming pools and sports pitches to smaller sporting facilities such as outdoor gyms and parks.
In particular, tell us about how important these points are to you:
- What do you currently enjoy using and why?
- What do you think is missing from your local area?
- What facility would help you to be active?

I enjoy walking, cycling, yoga. Missing a community gym on Hayling and swimming pool and proper cycling routes. The roads are narrow and the pavements overgrown

Currently enjoy: walking. Please stop building on our green spaces.
Missing: Local gym membership that doesn’t tie you into a contract or charge large joining fees.

Another swimming pool is required in the community as the one at Waterlooville is already at capacity in my opinion. I would love to swim regularly but it's just not possible/enjoyable at Waterlooville outside my working hours sadly.

Free parking for wellbeing seems to be a bit of a theme here!

@Mike Owens Definitely. The Council just needs to find a way to identify the "wellbeers", or to exclude shoppers and visitors. It would probably not be a precise science but it shouldn't be too difficult to solve with technology.

@Rose Gerlach Indeed! The problem is that HBC is rather short of rocket scientists who can solve this. The best thing they could do was to consult - they are not much good at that either for there have only been a slack handful of commentators like us. My observation is that most "classes and activities" in the health centre last 90 mins including changing etc maybe 2 hours with a coffee? I see that many pubs now have registration screens for your car to enjoy their services without paying for parking. As an engineer I suspect such a screen inside the leisure centre and connecting the data collected to the Ringo database should not be beyond the limited rocketry science available to the council. A little research by the councils clever people could find other places in the UK who want to solve this problem and who have found a solution. I suspect this is a simple problem to solve!

A running track would be a great addition to the borough. Perhaps as a shared public and secondary school facility?

Horizon Leisure has some good fitness classes. Sometimes it would be good to have a fuller timetable of classes, especially at weekends. Classes get very full at times and you have to go on a waiting list.
The new outdoor gym at Jubilee Park is proving popular, I have seen all ages out enjoying it.
We really need more for young people to do in the area - Superbowl, trampolining (Flip Out, Ninja Warrior) or similar would bring visitors and business to the area. We have enough supermarkets, charity shops and junk food outlets! (note that an Aldi and KFC are being built right beside McDonalds and Lidl.)

@Donna Patterson Thanks for your feedback Donna - what types of fitness classes do you enjoy doing and would like to see more of at weekends?

Free parking dawn (6-9am) and dusk (6-10pm) will encourage people to come and practice physical and mental wellbeing practice. 2-3 years ago we had this free parking and now we have a season ticket which I cannot afford like many during a cost of living crisis. The season ticket, ironically called a welbeing pass" stops people like me looking after myself in the open places. Look closely at how much cash HBC would lose between the times I mention and it will be tiny! If HBC wants to promote wellbeing, we need to remove barriers to participation, not create new ones!!

I like the beach when its available which Norse like to drive their trucks along and flood the car parks with dirty water and general disorganised direction lead by senior councillors and expense , which happens every year ..
I would like to see more disabled walkways , cold showers along the beach to rinse off after swimming in the sea and children playing on the beach .

We enjoy spending all our spare time at our G section beach hut meeting our neighbours & generally having a good time. This is spoilt for all of us because NORSE have still not after 9 months given us access to our little toilet block since Storm Kathleen.

@Brian Oakes Hi Brian, thanks for your comment. I have been in contact with the relevant team about this. They have asked if it would be possible to speak to you directly. If you would be happy to do so, please could you email insight@havant.gov.uk. Thank you, Caroline
