Waterlooville Leisure Centre Improvements

Havant Borough Council and Horizon Leisure Trust are proposing to deliver a transformation of the facilities at Waterlooville Leisure Centre.

This project is funded by Havant Borough Council Section 106 monies, Winchester City Council Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and Horizon Leisure Trust.

We want to hear your views on the proposed concept options which improve the building and introduce new activities which reflect changing trends and aim to support more people to be more active, more often.

The options proposed are aimed at providing users of all ages and abilities with access to an updated range of activities and facilities which will help you keep active, support your physical and mental wellbeing and help us to sustain our leisure services now and into the future.

Whether you are just starting out, or are already well into your physical activity journey, we want to help by providing inclusive and accessible spaces and places which are modern, well equipped, and meet the needs of our community in achieving healthy lifestyles. To ensure we do this, we want to hear from you!

Please note that plans are still at an early stage and are dependent on securing external funding and planning permission, while the findings of this exercise will be considered alongside other information such as assessed local need, financial sustainability and stakeholder engagement. The below photos only provide indicative designs and the final design may differ.

The addition of outdoor artificial sports facilities are required by the S106 funding and will be provided in some form – this will be shaped by the findings of the survey alongside the wider considerations listed above.

Improvements to the changing rooms and showers will be included as part of any refurbishment option chosen.

A versatile, all weather, outdoor space, used for the following:

Small sided 5 & 7 a side football tournaments and leagues for juniors and adults
Informal kickabout opportunities. A chance to book slots with friends and family
Schools and community group use
Delivery of health programmes and targeted initiatives such as walking football
Provision of children’s holiday camps

Providing the areas first publicly accessible Padel facility, the fastest growing racquet sport in the UK. This will hopefully enable the following:

Individual and group coaching opportunities for all ages and levels – a chance to learn the game and develop your skills
Informal opportunities to book court time with friends and family
Social and competitive leagues and match play
A great game for all, including those with mobility challenges

Redesigning the Health and Fitness Area, to include:

An extended and reconfigured gym layout, including an additional 30 fitness stations
Two new group exercise studios. Including a wellness space for lower intensity exercise and to facilitate co-located health sector partners and a higher intensity studio for cycle and HITT workouts.

A welcoming and inviting family friendly space, incorporating:

Improved dining space with new lighting, furniture and serving area which will boast healthier menu options.
Small soft play provision to host parties, mother and toddler sessions and casual use
An improved Creche provision to support parent and carer opportunities to be active
Ability to host a variety of community-based services, parent and toddler groups, post-natal group sessions
